We’ve provided homes, vehicles, and financial assistance for essential bills, ensuring our neighbors have access to food, clean water, and basic necessities. While many families are starting to get back on their feet, they still need our support to fully recover. After losing their home to Hurricane Helene, the McClain family of six was left without shelter. HopeMill stepped in to provide emergency housing, but their original mobile home was beyond repair due to black mold and severe roof damage. Thanks to a generous donation from Mountain Alliance and Mission, a new home is ready—but we need your help to finish the job.
HopeMill is collaborating with other local nonprofits to help facilitate and fund a dual project in Yancey County this summer. We were introduced to Haley and her family whose home was destroyed by the Cane River. When we arrived the first thing we noticed were tombstones, vaults, and caskets in what used to be their front yard. A privately owned cemetery with several family plots had been washed away by the roaring river during Hurricane Helene. Our goal is to raise funding to allow them to reestablish a home and sense of normalcy and facilitate the restoration of this local cemetery with dignity and discretion while raising awareness of this unique situation.
HopeMill is collaborating with other local nonprofits to help facilitate and fund a dual project in Yancey County this summer. By donating, you will be assisting with funding to restore the Whitson cemetery, including: purchasing replacement tombstones, caskets, restoration services, and landscaping for the cemetery, as well as helping Haley’s family rebuild.
